BS476Class0 test methods and standards
BS476Class0 is evaluated based on the test results of both BS476-6 and BS476-7.
BS476Class0 requirements: The BS476-7 flame surface extension level test reaches Class1, and at the same time meets the i index ≤ 6 in the BS476-6 flame propagation index test, and the total index ≤ 12, only then can the product be evaluated to reach Class0 in BS476.
BS476Part6 test method:
BS476-6:1989+A1:2009 is referred to as BS476Part6 or BS476-6. The BS476-6 test method evaluates the fire performance of products such as walls and ceilings through the size of the flame spread index. Use a thermocouple to continuously record the difference between the temperature in the chimney and room temperature, and compare the result (temperature difference versus time curve) with a calibration curve, which is measured in the same way using asbestos-cement boards of specified density. The BS476-6 test method is a method for determining the flame propagation properties of materials. It is mainly used to evaluate the fire performance of wall and ceiling linings. The measurement results are expressed as flame propagation index.
BS476Part7 fire rating test method
The test method is to ignite the sample in the combustion box, and the ignition source is a gas radiant panel and a medium-sized gas blowtorch. The radiation intensity of the radiant panel is 32.5kw/m2 (surface) at a distance of 75mm. The flame of the blowtorch is 75-100mm high and is applied to the sample in the same direction as the radiant panel. The sample was exposed to a radiant heat source plate for 10 min. Record the flame spread of the sample at 1.5 minutes and 10 minutes.
The GB8624-2012 standard divides materials into four grades: A, B1, B2, and B3. Class A – non-combustible materials, B1 – flammable materials, B2 – combustible materials, B2 – flammable materials. The national standard fire protection grade test method is completely different from the test method of BS476-7 and BS476-6, so direct comparison cannot be made completely. However, the possibility of the GB8624 standard reaching the flame retardant and non-flammable grade and passing the British standard BS476 Class 0 grade will be greatly increased.
