Kazakhstan’s “Italic” reported on February 11 that according to the news released by the Kazakhstan Digital Economy Development Center, Kazakhstan will carry out digital clothing and textiles by December 31, 2021. Label management pilot, a total of 15 manufacturers and importers participated in the pilot project. Manufacturers and importers participating in the pilot can enter product information into the digital label and traceability system through special equipment, and then obtain an encrypted QR code containing the manufacturer, importer, batch number and other circulation supervision information. Pilot enterprises will respectively formulate their own product labeling implementation roadmaps.

Kurman Galiev, general manager of the Kazakhstan Digital Economy Development Center, said that participating in the pilot project will help companies understand the nuances of product labels in advance and optimize production. process, test equipment performance, and resolve related issues before formally implementing mandatory label management. As the operator of the commodity label management system, the Kazakhstan Digital Economy Development Center will test the mandatory labeling and traceability information system through pilot projects to evaluate the traceability of commodities in various logistics links.

It is reported that the introduction of commodity label management will help reduce illegal circulation, combat counterfeit and shoddy goods, and improve the competitiveness of manufacturers. According to statistics, illegal imports currently account for as much as 58% of Kazakhstan’s clothing market. The size of Kazakhstan’s clothing and textiles market in 2019 was 980 million tenge. After illegal trade is banned, the market size is expected to expand to 33-82 billion tenge by 2025.

Currently, Kazakhstan has begun to implement mandatory labeling management of tobacco products, and the transition period ends on October 1, 2021. The pilot program for label management of footwear products has recently ended. A total of 5 manufacturers and 16 importers participated in the pilot. It is planned to launch mandatory label management of footwear products in the second half of 2021. In addition, pilot projects for digital label management of drugs, alcohol and dairy products are being implemented.
