Vietnam’s textile and apparel exports achieved relatively positive results in the first few months of 2011. According to data from the General Administration of Customs of Vietnam, textile and clothing exports reached US$20.4 billion from the beginning of 2011 to July 15, ranking fourth among national export commodities. Compared with the same period in 2021, textile and clothing exports grew by 19.7%, ranking fourth among the six categories of commodities with exports exceeding US$1 billion.
In the first half of this year, the textile production index increased by 4.5%; the clothing production index increased by 23.3%; fabric output increased by 22.4%; garment output increased by 12.1%; the number of employees in the textile industry increased 6.3%; garment workers increased by 3.2%.
Compared with the same period in 2021, the import volume of textile and clothing materials has increased significantly. Among them, cotton increased by 15.6%; textile fiber increased by 6.6%; various fabrics increased by 7.2%; textile clothing, leather and footwear raw materials increased by 4.6%.
As for the export market, in the first half of this year, Vietnamese textiles and clothing were sold to 55 countries and regions, of which 17 markets had export sales exceeding US$100 million. The main export markets of Vietnam’s textile and clothing are the United States, Japan, South Korea, Canada, China, Germany, and Cambodia. Most of these markets are markets with free trade agreements with Vietnam.
