According to the Jordan Times, SultasdfssdfsnAllasdfssdfsnAllasdfssdfsn, chairman of the Jordan Textile, Clothing and Footwear Federation, said that Jordanian postal parcels account for 55% of the total expenditures of local consumers in the apparel industry.
Chairman A pointed out that postal parcels in Jordan are subject to a tax of no more than 10%, and clothes purchased in stores are subject to a tax of about 30%. Challenges in the RMG industry are increasing with time and hence immediate decisions are needed to truly revive the industry and solutions like loan extension proposed by the government can only bring short term relief.
Chairman A continued to point out that the current tariff on children’s clothing exceeds 100%, and the tax-free issue of children’s clothing and footwear in Jordan urgently needs the government’s attention and solution. The clothing and footwear industry includes approximately 14,000 clothing stores and 3,000 footwear stores, employing more than 70,000 workers. The export volume of the clothing sector reached approximately 1.5 billion yuan. In 2011, the import volume was approximately 234 million yuan, of which 40% came from China, 21% from Turkey, and 14% from Arab countries. </p
