In recent years, the antibacterial industry has developed rapidly. As Japan, the United States, Europe, China and other countries have gradually established their domestic antibacterial standard systems and guidelines, a new industry has now been formed on a global scale. However, due to different requirements, product testing methods and applicable product types in different countries, the same antibacterial product will be evaluated differently, which will also affect the international trade of antibacterial products. Therefore, we urgently need to seek global antibacterial testing standards.
In the process of striving to promote global standardization, Japan’s JIS L 1902:2008 “Test Methods for Antibacterial Performance of Textiles” has been revised and adjusted in accordance with European standards and international organization standards ISO 20743:2007 “Determination of Antibacterial Performance of Antibacterial Finished Textiles”. This reflects the views of many countries and will promote the development of antimicrobial textiles to make them suitable for use around the world. “ISO 20743 Determination of Antibacterial Properties of Antibacterial Finished Textiles” introduces ISO 20743 “Determination of Antibacterial Properties of Antibacterial Finished Textiles” (same as EN ISO 20743), formulated on June 1, 2007. This standard was jointly proposed by the Japan Textile Evaluation Committee and the Japan Antimicrobial Products Industrial Technology Association, and was formulated with input from experts from various countries. It also refers to the original version of the Japanese Industrial Standard – “JIS L 1902: 2002 Antibacterial Performance Test Method for Textiles” .
“ISO 20743 Antibacterial Performance Determination of Antibacterial Finished Textiles” is applicable to all textiles, including fabrics, fiber fillings, sewing threads, clothing, home decoration and other materials, and covers many antibacterial agent types and methods. This standard combines various current national standards and international standards to provide testing standards for a wide range of products.
