Searching for a balance between traditional and modern production methods, expanding production capacity while maintaining national craft characteristics, enhancing brand added value, and exploring mid-to-high-end markets are becoming active explorations in the Vietnamese silk industry and direction of efforts.
The silk industry has a long history in Vietnam and occupies an important position in the Vietnamese economy. Statistics from the World Silk Association show that Vietnam is currently one of the six largest silk producers in the world, with exports ranking third in Asia and sixth in the world.
Among Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam’s silk industry has laid a good production foundation by virtue of being the hometown of silk with a long history. Its export volume of cooked silk exceeds that of Cambodia and Thailand.
Silk production in Bao Loc City, Lam Dong Province, Tay Nguyen Region, Vietnam has achieved large-scale mechanization, and its output and export volume dominate the Vietnamese market. Bao Loc City has an annual output of about 1,000 tons of silk and about 3.5 million square meters of satin. Its export volume reaches US$16-18 million, accounting for about 80% of Vietnam’s annual export volume. </p
