Vietnam’s “Investment Online” reported on June 15 that the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade revealed that from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) taking effect (August 1, 2020) to 2021 As of June 4, 2020, authorized institutions and organizations have issued 180,551 sets of EUR.1 certificates of origin (C/O) to exporters exporting to 27 EU countries, involving a total amount of more than 6.6 billion US dollars.

In addition, companies exporting goods to the EU also conducted self-certification of origin for 4,845 batches of goods worth more than 14.91 million US dollars, and enjoyed preferential tariffs under EVFTA.

The commodities awarded EUR.1 certificate of origin (C/O) are mainly footwear, aquatic products, textiles, agricultural products, cereal products, electronic products, etc. Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the Import and Export Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, said that the export growth data to the EU proves that companies are effectively exploring markets under EVFTA.

With the EU becoming the fourth largest export market for Vietnam’s agricultural products, coupled with import tax exemptions and tax reductions under EVFTA, Vietnam’s import and export volume is continuing to grow to improve competitiveness and consolidate its position in the international market. </p
