Cambodia’s General Administration of Customs stated that Cambodia’s textile and garment exports reached US$8.24 billion from January to September this year, an annual increase of 22.4%. According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia’s textile and garment exports in 2020 were US$9.5 billion, including garments, footwear and bags, a decrease of 10.44% compared with US$10.6 billion in 2019.
Hong Vanek, director of international economics at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said that although Cambodia has been affected by the epidemic, the textile and garment industry is still on an upward trend this year. Not only has new investors increased, Export value also increased. This situation is caused by, on the one hand, investors’ trust and confidence in the Cambodian government’s measures, and on the other hand, Cambodian businesses benefit from orders transferred from Myanmar. The Cambodian Garment Manufacturers Association also publicly stated that despite the outbreak of community infection in Cambodia in February this year and the city even being closed in April, fortunately, Myanmar clothing orders from June have brought hope for Cambodia to resume work.
