The Cambodian Ministry of Commerce recently released a report stating that clothing, footwear and travel accessories accounted for more than half of Cambodia’s total exports in 2011, with a value of more than 10 billion US dollars.
Reports show that Cambodia exported more than 9 billion US dollars worth of clothing in 2011, a year-on-year increase of 13%. The export value of footwear was US$1.737 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25%, and the export value of travel accessories was US$1.777 billion, a year-on-year increase of 19%.
Li Kuntai, chairman of the Cambodia Footwear Industry Association, said that the garment industry plays an important role in the Cambodian economy and creates job opportunities for Cambodians. There are currently about 1 million workers working in garment factories across the country. However, for 2023, clothing exports may face some challenges as orders did not increase at the beginning of the year. </p
