On September 22, 2023, Health Canada announced a recall of jackets produced in China and Vietnam.
The product involved this time is the Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) jacket. The product has a zipper and drawstring at the waist, comes with a hood, comes in three colors, sizes are 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16, and the style number is 6017-367.
The product’s drawstring may get stuck on playground equipment, fences or other objects, causing the user to be strangled or dragged away by a vehicle.
The products recalled were sold from August 2022 to September 2023, with approximately 837 units sold.
As of September 15, 2023, no accidents or casualties have been reported.
Health Canada recommends that you stop using this product immediately and remove the drawstring from your waist.
