On November 9, 2023, the WTO Safeguards Committee released the safeguard notification submitted to it by the Indonesian delegation. Indonesia has made its first sunset review and final ruling on safeguard measures on imported carpets and other textile floor coverings. It is recommended that the products involved in the case continue to be levied a safeguard tax for a period of three years, as follows: 2024 From February 17 to February 16, 2025, it is IDR 74,461/square meter. From February 17, 2025 to February 16, 2026, it is IDR 71,058/square meter. From February 17, 2026 to February 2027, it is IDR 71,058/square meter. On March 16, it was 67,811 rupiah/square meter. This case involves 64 products with 8-digit codes under Indonesian tariff number 57. The main countries of origin of the products involved include Vietnam, Turkey, Malaysia, Japan, China, and Thailand.
Indonesia will hold case consultations before December 1, 2023. Stakeholders should submit both electronic and paper consultation applications within 7 days of the release of this announcement.

On June 10, 2020, at the request of the Indonesian Textile Association, the Indonesian Safeguards Committee imposed restrictions on imported carpets and textile materials. Investigation of safeguard measures has been initiated for other floor covering products. On February 3, 2021, the Indonesian Ministry of Finance officially levied a three-year safeguard tax on the imported products involved. The details are as follows: from February 17, 2021 to February 16, 2022, it is 85,679 Indonesian rupiah/square meter, and in 2022 From February 17 to February 16, 2023, it is 81,763 Indonesian rupiah/square meter, and from February 17, 2023 to February 16, 2024, it is 78,027 Indonesian rupiah/square meter. On August 18, 2023, the Indonesian Safeguards Committee issued an announcement to launch the first sunset review investigation into the case at the request of the Indonesian Textile Association.
